Theatre is alive. It is an art form wherein the most powerful moments are often fleeting. Once the curtain falls, they exist only in the memories of those that had the great privilege of being there; be it working on the stage, or watching in the darkness. Once the curtain falls, it will never be the same performance again.
Preserving theatre history is essential to honoring the creativity, labor, and cultural impact of generations of artists whose work might otherwise be lost to time. Friends of Wait in the Wings has established and dedicated this online archive in an effort to preserve those legacies, by documenting costumes, props, merchandise, and most importantly, the stories behind each production.
Hear the tales these items have to tell from those that were there: the processes and experiences that gave life to the performances. By collecting and sharing these materials, we hope that this archive will not only be able to protect the past, but also inspire artists of the future. May it serve as a valuable resource for educators, students, theatre-makers, and theatre-lovers seeking to learn from and build upon what has come before.
